Hi, I’m Sarah, and this is my online home. I’m a librarian at-large living in the Bay Area with an interest in making personal information management work for people. I’m married to alphageek Patrick Norton, and our son Seamus was born in October 2007. If you’re looking for Patrick, this isn’t the way to get in touch with him. Try here instead, or here. Sometimes here as well. I currently stay at home managing the domestic fiefdom and toddler-wrangling, with plans to return to paid work sometime in 2010.
I launched holmgrrl.net in 2004 as an online portfolio while I was on the job market. At some point I began to blog on it as well to keep in touch with friends and learn how to code my own RSS feed. At some point the writing took over the site and I switched to WordPress so as to focus on that - and more importantly, to deal with the things that prompted me to write - the endless job hunt, clinical depression, weird/bad jobs, pregnancy, miscarriage, birth, post-partum depression, and other delightful stuff. The past five years can be seen in the section “What’s passed is prologue”. There are some laughs, but don’t look for angels and fairy dust. I’m still writing from the hip - the move to SquareSpace hasn’t changed that - but I’m playing more with the content and form. Now I chronicle my family instead of just myself.
I like dark chocolate, comfy shoes, red wine, bicycles, black teas, and birds. I’m using my time as a stay at home parent as a home-making intern; successes and disasters will be noted. I read compulsively. Oh, and I swear a lot. Not so much out loud anymore, but here? Oh hell yes. I’m a liberal, an atheist, an omnivore, and right-handed.
